GBBN took home three recognitions at the 2023 Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA). Dedicated to “celebrating the best built environment designs by Cincinnati-area creative firms,” this year’s jurors singled out GBBN’s work on Terrex and Messer’s, Digital Futures 2 Office Building; the University of Cincinnati, Terrex, and Messer’s, Digital Futures; and the University of Cincinnati’s MarketPointe Dining Hall.

University of Cincinnati MarketPointe won an AIA Honor Award in the Interior Architecture-Large Scale category. Originally built in 1963, this renovation enhances MarketPointe’s mid-century design DNA, while upgrading the dining experience to align with the needs of 21st century students and create a magnet for peer connection and socialization. A distinctive, custom-fabricated feature wall uses a simple shape multiple ways and adds to MarketPointe’s distinct sense of place. Read more about MarketPointe here.

Terrex and Messer Construction’s Digital Futures 2 Office Building won an AIA Merit Award in the Building Architecture-Large Scale category. The building expresses technological innovation at the front door to Cincinnati, Ohio’s Uptown neighborhood, and its many academic, medical, and research institutions. A simple box with a single fold, the building mass shifts at the third floor to share the sun with its neighbor (University of Cincinnati’s Digital Futures Research Building) while also letting light fill the pocket park between the two. The building adapts a simple, black metal panel system to generate impressive visual complexity. Read more about Digital Futures 2 here.

University of Cincinnati, Terrex, & Messer Construction, Digital Futures won an AIA Merit Award in the Interior Architecture-Large Scale category. With exposed floors, ceilings, and expansive glass walls, the design creates a raw yet refined industrial backdrop—punctuated by vibrant insertions of color, art, and graphics that express a digital language in the material environment—to inspire the creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning of research teams.
