GBBN’s Design Featured in Library Journal
As another year draws to a close, the Library Journal’s “2019 Year in Architecture”-issue celebrates the best new construction and renovation in public and academic libraries across the country. Gracing the pages of this year’s architectural issue is GBBN’s design of the Baldwin Borough Public Library (BBPL).
Library Journal praises the way the design’s creation of flexible space supports multiple programming needs – tutoring, summer teen hangout, community meeting spaces.
But the cat is already out of the bag in Pittsburgh. According to BBPL, since the renovation, the library has seen a 54% increase in circulation of print materials; youth summer reading club participation is up by 37%; and PC work sessions are up by 134%. Since moving into their new home, BBPL has registered 444 new library users—up from 84 over a typical four-month period in their old location.
That’s powerful testimony to the value of this important community institution.
