Cincinnati Children’s Opens Centerville Location

Accessing the world class pediatric care got easier for families last week as Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center cut the ribbon on phase one of its new Centerville location in Montgomery County, Ohio. “We have long served patients and families from this area, and now they no longer have to drive a long distance for care,” said Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Evaline Alessandrini, who presided over the ceremony on March 3, 2023.

This new medical office building will improve access to a range of subspecialty pediatric care allowing patients with multiple care needs to be seen in one place.

“This renovation continues the life of an existing medical office building while incorporating open care team collaboration areas, wayfinding that feels intuitive, and positive distractions in the form of wall graphics, art, and waiting spaces that appeal to young patients,” says Matt Scott, part of the GBBN design team who worked on the project. GBBN’s Heidi Lofton, also part of the design team, echoes this sentiment. “We used softer geometry to feel playful, childlike and cheerful. An arched seating nook built into a wall in the waiting room helps make a medical environment feel more approachable and less intimidating,” she says.

The first phase of a planned three phase project, Cincinnati Children’s Centerville location will be able to serve more patients as it grows and adds more specialty care. “The project is designed in such a way that it can house almost any specialty, with spaces that can flex to suit many different types of care,” says Matt. Currently, Cincinnati Children’s Centerville offers gastroenterology, neurology, urology, heart, ENT (otolaryngology) and walk-in lab services. When future phases are complete, x-ray services and additional specialty care will be available.

We collaborated with several partners to bring this project to life, including Kolar Design (artwork, graphics, wayfinding), Heapy (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering), Messer (construction), Triversity (construction), THP Ltd. (structural engineering), KFI Engineers (systems control), and The RCF Group (furniture).
