GBBN Principal Amanda Markovic, AIA was recently tapped to help judge Retrofit Magazine’s Fourth Annual Metamorphosis Awards – an awards competition that recognizes outstanding renovations of all kinds.

As Market Design Leader for Community Development at GBBN, Amanda shapes the firm’s design strategy for our community development market, which includes affordable and multi-family housing, community libraries, and not-for-profit organizations.

In addition to her considerable design expertise and project experience, Amanda was invited to join the jury due to the success of two GBBN projects—Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green and Contemporary Craft—in the 2021 Metamorphosis Awards.

Because submissions are so varied, the jury was asked to evaluate each project according to its success in meeting its own requirements and goals. Weighing projects individually—not in comparison to others—the jury chose as many projects as they felt deserving of the honor.

Amanda was extremely impressed by the quality of work she reviewed. “These projects not only represent a reinvestment in critical pieces of the built environment, but they’re highly sustainable. By reusing existing buildings to meet community needs, they’re extending the life of embodied carbon.”

Amanda recused herself from judging GBBN’s submissions to the contest.
