Mercy Health recently cut the ribbon and opened the doors on the new Mercy Health Kings Mills Hospital in Mason, Ohio.

Built to serve unmet inpatient needs in the rapidly growing suburbs of northern Cincinnati, the new hospital provides a peaceful, healing environment for visitors.

“The lobby is designed to ease patient anxieties,” says GBBN Principal, Ivan Cheung. “It greets visitors with a welcoming, light-filled space, a wood-wrapped wall and ceiling feature that subtly expresses Mercy Health’s spiritual identity, and a view of the courtyard. Along with its intuitive navigation, it aims to make the visit as comfortable and reassuring as possible.”

Designed during the pandemic, the project team had to navigate a difficult construction market to make the project work.

“Project design efforts ramped up at the start of the pandemic,” explains GBBN Principal, Mickey LeRoy. “Our integrated project team learned how to design and communicate in a remote work environment to meet pandemic-related challenges for design coordination, stakeholder meeting facilitation, and cost management. These new work processes continued into the construction phase, where Danis’ onsite industrialized construction center fabricated components of the building in an assembly line that had been built on site. This saved money and time, speeding the completion of the project by about five months.”

Mercy Health Kings Mills Hospital offers comprehensive services, providing an Emergency Department, 60 patient rooms, four operating rooms, a catheterization laboratory, and interventional radiology. It also includes an attached Medical Office Building that will help address the area’s ambulatory needs.
