We are celebrating! Two GBBN projects have been recognized for design excellence by the American Institute of Architects Ohio. At the 2022 awards ceremony, held in Cleveland, Ohio last month, we received two awards of merit, one for Cincinnati Ballet’s Margaret & Michael Valentine Center for Dance and one for TriHealth’s Harold M. and Eugenia S. Thomas Comprehensive Care Center.

For the Margaret & Michael Valentine Center for Dance, the jury noted how the building “shares in and even exudes the joy that comes with movement and dance.” They also appreciated how the building’s facades “convey a civic importance with hints of the exuberance inside,” as well as the quality of the space inside. “Once inside,” wrote the jury, “the light filled spaces seem to propel motion while the somewhat rawer aesthetic of the interior compared to the exterior suggests a freedom to experiment.”

TriHealth’s Thomas Comprehensive Care Center won jury accolades for the way the project “transcends images we all have of hospitals” and offers a different quality and sense of place. One juror called this “important work,” and another said, “this is a place you would want to be” —something that is certainly not the usual refrain at a hospital.

Many thanks to the jury for recognizing our work this year!
