The ribbon has been cut on the renovation of the main entrance and lobby at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The project includes a new transformed main drive and valet circle, outdoor seating, improved lighting, a new entrance foyer and canopy on the exterior. The interior includes an updated and reconfigured lobby with new furnishings, improved garage access, a new check-in area for patients, and the relocation of pharmacy and patient relations offices to better serve patients and visitors.

This renovation is the first project to roll out UC Health’s new branded environment guidelines, developed with Kolar Design and GBBN. It allowed the design team the opportunity to explore the brand language, “In Science Lives Hope” and express this sentiment in their physical space. “Textural elements echo from the outside canopy fin system to the fin-cloud above the welcome desk, to the feature wall system, and mezzanine railing,” explains Ben Earls, part of the GBBN project team. “Our team developed these custom elements and through close coordination with Danis Construction and individual trades, fabricated the pieces for easy installation. The result brings a unique element to UC Health while keeping material waste and cost in mind,” says Ben.

The University of Cincinnati Medical Center is greater Cincinnati’s only Level 1 adult trauma center and greater Cincinnati’s only comprehensive organ transplant program. For UC Health, this project isn’t just about a building. “It’s about creating healing environments where patients come to receive care for anything from the most basic health needs to the most complex illnesses and injuries,” says Rick Hinds, UC Health interim president & CEO and executive vice president and chief financial officer. “It’s about creating a place where the best and brightest clinicians and staff can bring their expertise and specialty training to practice each day.”
